He married Audrey Nancy DAVIS 4 February 1914 in NY. Audrey was born 15 August 1895 in Indian Lake, Hamilton, NY. Audrey was the daughter of John Russell DAVIS and Edith LOCKE. Audrey died 2 April 1960 at 64 years of age.

Walter was listed as the head of a family on the 1920 Census in Bolton, NY. Walter was listed as the head of a household on the 1930 census in Warrensburg, Warren, NY. The following individuals are also linked to this event: Edith M. BARTON (daughter); Ralph J. BARTON (son); Audrey Nancy DAVIS (wife). At the 1910 census walter was lodging in Kingsbury, Washington, NY and working in a shirt shop. In 1920 he was farming in Bolton.
