He married Emily DIMICK 5 February 1870 in Sharon, VT.⁽¹⁵⁴⁷⁾ Emily was born circa 1843 in NY. Emily died circa 1908.

Rufus was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Hanover, Grafton, NH. Rufus was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Guilderland, Albany, NY. The following individuals are also linked to this event: Ella BARTON (daughter); Emily DIMICK (wife). Rufus was listed as the head of a family on the 1910 Census in Altamont, Albany, NY. Rufus was a physician obtaining his MD from the University of Michigan. He practiced in Altamont, NY and in Barre, VT. In the 1870 census he is listed as a student at Dartmouth and was enumerat at home with his family a month earlier in Ludlow called a machinest.
