1408. Nathan Henry8 BARTON (Reuben7, Nathan6, Nathan5, Joshua4, Samuel3, Matthew2, Edward1)(1418) was born in Coles County, IL 13 April 1840. Nathan died 20 October 1927 in San Bernardino, CA, at 87 years of age.

He married twice. He married Melisa P. COOK 11 February 1867 in Monroe, NE. Melisa died 6 June 1870. He married Sylvia Almira WHITING 7 June 1877 in Springville, Utah, UT. Sylvia was born 1861 in UT.

Nathan was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Springville, Utah, UT. The following individuals are also linked to this event: Maude M. BARTON (daughter); Grace Emeline BARTON (daughter); Sylvia Almira WHITING (wife). Nathan served with the Union forces for three and one half years during the Civil War, enlisting in Company B Fourth Iowa Infantry and was discharged at Jonesboro, Ga, 4 September 1864. He was at the fall of Atlanta and in all of Sherman's Ga campaigns. It was probably during his military service that he received training as a pharmacist, which occupation he followed later in life, being listed as a druggist at the time of his death.

After the death of his first wife, he enlisted and served from 4 September 1871 to January 1892 in Company A, North's Batt. of the Pawnee Scouts.

Nathan Henry BARTON and Sylvia Almira WHITING had the following children:

child + 2830 ii. Grace Emeline BARTON was born 3 November 1879.

child + 2831 iii. Mira E. BARTON was born 18 July 1881.

child 2832 iv. Wallace N. BARTON was born in Pleasant Valley, UT 25 July 1883. Wallace died 2 March 1962 at 78 years of age. He married Mable TUCKER.

child 2833 v. Myrtle Gertrude BARTON was born in San Bernardino, CA 24 October 1888. Myrtle died 27 September 1970 in Fontana, CA, at 81 years of age. She married Hiram Nathan PITCHER 1 January 1906 in Long Beach, Los Angeles, CA.
