577. Reuben⁷ BARTON (Nathan⁶, Nathan⁵, Joshua⁴, Samuel³, Matthew², Edward¹)⁽⁷⁴⁸⁾ was born in Plainfield, MA 9 January 1811. Reuben died 12 April 1891 in Weston, IA, at 80 years of age.

He married three times. He married Marcia Elisa WILSON 11 February 1838 in Coles County, IL.⁽⁷⁴⁹⁾ Marcia was born 25 December 1811 in St. Albans, Franklin, VT. Marcia was the daughter of John WILSON and Lucretia WIFE OF JOHN WILSON. Marcia died 8 September 1845 in Hancock County, IL, at 33 years of age. He married Almera Woodward JOHNSON 16 October 1845 in Hancock County, IL. Almera was born 12 October 1812 in Westford, Chittenden, VT. Almera⁽⁷⁵⁰⁾ was the daughter of Ezekiel JOHNSON and Julia HILLS. Almera died 04 March 1896 in Parowan, Iron, UT, at 83 years of age. Almera was of a family prominant in the Morman church. She was one of Joseph Smith, Jr's 21 wives marrying him in 1843 about a year before his death. In 1861, at the call for the scattered saints to come, she left Rueben, taking their three daighters, and joined her family in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He married Maria Jane CAROTHERS 20 October 1867 in Ohio. Maria was born 19 October 1818 in Phelps, Ontario, NY. Maria⁽⁷⁵¹⁾ was the daughter of John CAROTHERS and Betsey SICKLER. Maria died 10 September 1890 in Weston, IA, at 71 years of age.

Reuben was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Nauvoo, Hancock, IL. Reuben was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Crescent, Pottawamie, IA. Reuben was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Hazel Dell, Pottawattamie, IA. The following individual is also linked to this event: Maria Jane CAROTHERS (wife). Reuben migrated to Ohio with his mother and three siblings when he was 20, settling eventually in Huntsburg, Geauga, Ohio. When his mother remarried he lived for two years or so with his brother in law , N. M. Faun and with him relocated in 1837 to Coles County, Illinois where he bought 120 acres of government land. In the spring of 1844 the family moved to Hancock County, Illinois where his wife and infant doughter died in 1846. Five years later he was caught up in the Mormon troubles in Hancock County, Il and in 1852 moved to Pottawattamie County, IA, where he remained until his death. He was a prosperous farmer in the Hazel Dell Township area and served as a Justice of the Peace and Notary for many years. Almira and three daughters joined the Mormon call to the mountains in 1861 leaving Reuben again without a wife. It was during a visit to Ohio in 1867 that he met his third wife. In June of 1884 health and age induced him to sell the farm and retire to Weston.

All of the children by 2nd wife Almera died young, none married and none were born of the 3rd marriage.

Reuben BARTON and Marcia Elisa WILSON had the following children:

+ 1408 i. Nathan Henry⁸ BARTON was born 13 April 1840.

+ 1409 ii. Reuben Almon BARTON was born 10 November 1842.

1410 iii. Marcia BARTON⁽⁷⁵²⁾ was born in Hancock County, IL 25 July 1845. Marcia died 25 September 1845 in Hancock County, IL, at less than one year of age.

Reuben BARTON and Almera Woodward JOHNSON had the following children:

1411 iv. Mary Ellen BARTON⁽⁷⁵³⁾ was born 21 July 1846. Mary died 17 August 1848 at 2 years of age.

1412 v. Sarah Delcena BARTON⁽⁷⁵⁴⁾ was born 29 April 1849. Sarah died 23 March 1870 at 20 years of age.

1413 vi. Louise Elvira BARTON⁽⁷⁵⁵⁾ was born 19 April 1851.

1414 vii. Almira Melissa BARTON⁽⁷⁵⁶⁾ was born 12 December 1852.

1415 viii. Harriet Julia BARTON⁽⁷⁵⁷⁾ was born 1 September 1854. Harriet died 20 December 1861 at 7 years of age.
