BARTON 13 July 1868 in Ludlow, Windsor, VT.(869) Ira was born March 11, 1840 in Newport, Sullivan, NH. Ira was the son of Levi Winter BARTON and Mary Ann PIKE. Ira died January 19, 1876 in Newport, Sullivan, NH, at 35 years of age. Ira was employed. Ira was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Ludlow, Windsor, VT. Ira attended Kimball Union Academny and Dartmouth College (which he left before graduation.) He took up the study of law in his father's office and was admitted to practice in 1863. He was the first Sullivan County man to enlist at the outbreak of the Civil War and at the age of 21 raised a company of volunteers and was appointed its Captain. He rose to the ranks of Colonel during the war and accepted a commission as Lieutenant afterwards when he was stationed in Arkansas. He resigned and was appointed district attorney for the Arkansas 10th district and later a Jefferson County Judge. He then became a partner in a newpaper and ran for governor of the state. Upon losing the campaign, Ira left the state and returned to Newport where he died little more than a year later.

Addie is living in Ludlow VT as a lodger in the 1900 census. She is recorded in the 1890 veteran's census as recieving Ira's pension.
