When he registered for the draft in Houlton on 5 June 1917 he was described as tall and slender with light brown hair and blue eyes. In 1923 he went to work for Sawyer Lumber Co. as a bookkeeper and upon retirement 35 years later had become treasurer and a director of the firm. Much time was spent in civic activities with the Kiwanis, Lions, Masons, Chamber of Commerce and on the golf course of Wachusett Country Club of which he was elected President. On retirement he and wife Helen Sanders moved to Dunedin, Florida.
