He married twice. He married Louisa FISH 1851. Louisa was born 1824 in PA. Louisa died September 1890 at 66 years of age.(1196) He married Rose MADISON 1894.

Research provided by Jim Sazevich (jassaz@uswest.net) says the following: He came to Minnesota in 1857 settleing near Cannon Falls, but after a few years moved to Northfield in Rice County. He served in the Minnisota Mounted Rangers in the Indian War with the Dakotas attaining the rank of captain; was a state senator 1959-60 and representitive in the legislature 1870-73 running as the democratic candidate for Governor in 1873. He was president of the State Agricultural Society 1873-74 and served as sheriff of Rice County 1876-85 at the county seat of Faribault (say Faribo.) He removed in his last years to Morristown. He served in the civil war for four years being discharged at the rank of captain. Ara was sheriff at the time of the Great Northfield, MN bank robbery by the James gang and Younger brothers. The Youngers were caught, convicted and served time until 1891 when they were released for good behavior. A NH newspaper article on the occasion of his mothers 94th birthday calls Ara the Sherriff of Paribo, MN.

child 2214 iii. Phineas W. BARTON was born in NY 1 May 1855. Phineas died 8 January 1913 at 57 years of age.(1197) His body was interred 1913 in Wells, Rice, MN.(1198) He married Georgia RICE 16 February 1906. Georgia was born 7 April 1856. Georgia died 22 May 1910 at 54 years of age. Her body was interred 1910 in Wells, Rice, MN. In the 1900 census Phineas is single and boarding with the Pennington family in Sciota,Dakota, MN. He is called a farmer.
