802. Sarah Sally7 BARTON (Stephen6, Stephen5, Edmund4, Samuel3, Matthew2, Edward1) was born in Oxford, Worcester, MA March 20, 1811. Sarah died 24 May 1874 in Worcester, Worcester, MA, at 63 years of age.
She married Vester VASSALL April 17, 1834 in Oxford, Worcester, MA. Vester was born July 31, 1809 in Ward, MA. Vester was the son of Benjamin VASSALL and Mary STONE. Vester died September 1880 in Worcester, Worcester, MA, at 71 years of age.
Sarah Sally BARTON and Vester VASSALL had the following children:
1856 i. Bernard Barton8 VASSALL was born in Oxford, Worcester, MA October 10, 1835. Bernard died 23 March 1894 in Worcester, Worcester, MA, at 58 years of age. He married Francis Maria CHILDS November 26, 1863 in Worcester, Worcester, MA. Francis was born March 21, 1834 in Worcester, Worcester, MA. Francis was the daughter of Benjamin Willis CHILDS and Elizabeth SOUTHWORTH.
Bernard was employed at as a Civil Servant. He was associated with his uncle, Stephen Barton, in the lumber business in North Carolina. At the outbreak of the civil war he returned to Oxford joining the DeWitt Guards which became Company E, 15th MA Volunteers and was commissioned a Lieutenant. He was captured at the Battle of Balls Bluff and held at Richmond, VA. He was paroled to Anapolis, MD where he waited to be exchanged. Bernard began the genealogical inquirys which resulted in the Rev. William Barton publishing his work in Vol 64 (Oct. 1930) of the NEHGR.
1857 ii. Irving Stetson VASSALL was born in Oxford, Worcester, MA August 16, 1840. Irving died April 9, 1865 in Washington, DC, at 24 years of age. Irving was employed.
