10. Ebenezer3 BARTON (William2, Edward1) birth date unknown. Ebenezer died 6 May 1721 in Newbury, Essex, MA.(13)
He married Esther FLOOD May 5, 1710 in Newbury, Essex, MA.(14) Esther was born 15 May 1686 in Newbury, Essex, MA. Esther was the daughter of Phillip FLOOD and Mary. Esther died circa 1721 in Newbury, Essex, MA.
Ebenezer was employed at as a Mariner. Ebenezer had his will probated 25 November 1721 in Salem, Essex, MA. Also a resident of Arundel Maine, Ebenezer's estate was probated there. Soloman Holman, his brother in law was the administrator. The records mention some 100 acres at Kennebunk "in right of his father William" and other lands. The accounts include support and maintenance of four of his children but make no mention of his wife.
He sold some six acres of Marsh on 13 June 1721 to Humphrey Dearing. This was a neat trick as he seems to have been deceased. He is described as a mariner of Newbury and Ken'port who was cast overboard and drowned at Newbury Bar. He is listed a member of Capt. Joseph Eaton's company of Newbury on 22 September 1712.
There is now some doubt as to Ebenezer's genetic father. A recent DNA study shows a large number of differences from what should be cousins and descendants of William's brother Matthew. Legaly it appears as though Ebenezer is rightful heir to William but the several charges brought against his mother and the recent DNA study cast doubt about the real father. We need very much to locate different branches of Ebenezer's family and other branches from William to do further study.
